Looks preatty promising for those of us that miss planetside or crave a twitchier mmo. Still reading alittle into it, but it DOES have a guild recruitment system in place for beta if someone wants to look into that.

I signed up using your code. I loved PlanteSide, if they improve on that concept this game will be huge.

I'm ready to make a post introducing us on the forums, but I'd like some thoughts on how we are going to present ourselves in-game, first.
remnants of military forces, trying to secure and rebuild civilization?
anything-goes to the top bidder mercenaries that fight dirty?
something in the middle?
This is also a recruitment forum, but I don't think our style of initiation meshes with accepting applications pre-gameplay, so I would have to say something to discourage most perspective applicants until we can run with them in game.
Thoughts?

I don't really know how you could scare people off for now... I guess you could play the don't trust outsiders, have to prove yourself mob/merc co. thing. On the other front, does LOA really seem like the loyalist type? I'm thinkin more like "freedom fighters totally willing to put aside their own fight for a quick buck" is more descriptive of LOA, tell me if i'm wrong :-p

I think the game reminds me a bit of Shadowbane, just not broken.
The goal of Shadowbane was to win and crush your enemies, such is the goal of this game.
We need to ask ourselves: Will we be able to defend and keep what is ours if we play hard core, cut throat game? Will we have the presence? I imagine LOA will do what LOA does best
Play well and be well respected, forming alliances and working in teams.
So that puts us something in the middle. Remnants of military forces trying to establish order in the midst of chaos, doing what needs done to secure and maintain those things necessary for continued existance. Diplomatically or Militarily, we will protect ourselves and grow.
Something along those lines. You're better at this than me and don't even know if I'll be playing, although the game has me intrigued.
I would put something in the post like,
"Although LOA is not openly/currently recruiting or accepting applications for this game, we want to begin forming relationships with other clans/guilds/nations/whatevertheyuseingame to ensure the success and enjoyment of all our members"
something like that.

Looks like Tribes, but without vehicles (except for the walker shown at the very end of the trailer).
The guilds in the game are referred to as "agencies."

"Referral Codes - I am currently handing out special referral codes to certain guilds and gaming groups. Individuals have personal "refer a friend" codes that they can use for them and 5 of their friends. Other special promotional codes also exist for special events or contests that we run. If you have a code, make sure you update your profile with one."

Ok, I had to sign up for this too... I'm not a full member yet, so I hope you don't mind me using one of the referral codes, but wow, this game looks like what I wanted Tabula Rasa to be like.

The NDA is very limiting.

Okay ... here's a specific list of what I can't talk about:
Game setting, game genre, game design, game mechanics, game art style and content, game technology, game user interface and control, game music and sound effects, customer lists, customer and supplier identities and characteristics, agreements, marketing knowledge and information, sales figures, pricing information, business plans, marketing plans, strategies, forecasts, financial information, budgets, software, research papers, projections, procedures, routines, quality control and manufacturing procedures, processes, formulas, trade secrets, innovations, inventions, discoveries, improvements, research or development and test results, specifications, data, know-how, formats, plans, sketches, specifications, drawings, models, and any other information or procedures that are treated as or designated secret or confidential by Company or its customers or potential customers.
So that being said...
The game was intuitive - it didn't take long to "figure it out"
I actually ended up being paired up with 3 Old Timers Guild members. It was pretty cool to be next to some folks that I knew wouldn't suck.
I had a good time, the staff was a pleasure to talk to and even gave us drinks and snacks.
Oh, and I've an alpha invite now.
With some buddy keys - don't know how many or what the requirements are for them so don't start the PM's yet.
There's 4 classes of dudes (which you can find online as well - no violation of NDA here)
Assault - Go figure - the heavy weapons specialist with big guns and lots of armor
Recon - Sealth and speed
Medic - Can stop others from healing and heal as well
Robotivs - runs turrets, robots, blows shit up.
Character "level" is more of the ability to have more viarity and versatility than it is more power weapons and gear. This game is based more around the skill of the player vs. epic loot drop number 4. Equipment is divided between primary and secondary ranged or melee weapons, jetpacks, and offhand gadgets with cooldowns that act more like your traditional MMO abilities, all fed from the same power source. In standard RPG fashion, damage comes in four kinds with matching resistances - energy, fire, physical and poison.
Equipping, re-equipping and re-speccing your character for action on a neat loadout screen was pretty damn fun in itself. I could have used a couple hours here just for giggles. The battles seem to go on at a pretty furious pace but never really descend into chaos (except this one time where the server didn't balance like it was supposed to ... funny hearing a dev go, "Oops - oh yeah - that's what I forgot to do"). There's color-coded interface that makes all the damage and healing going on crystal-clear. Unlike most MMOs, it's a tactile and physically satisfying game to play, too, with the weapons and jetpacks having a finely-tuned feel. According to one web sites description that fit pretty well, "The hi-tech future setting is entirely generic, but presented with a bold sheen and clear silhouettes for the chunky and appealing characters"
It is rendered on the Unreal 3 Engine so any of y'all that have played unreal tournament 2 or 3 I think will have a pretty good feel for the game from the get go.
