Just curious if there is an application or word add-on etc that has mathematical symbols and greek letters. I communicate calculus and physics equations quite often as i slug through my degree and it would make life so much easier.

When you install Microsoft Word, there is an equation editor that is optional. I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for or not, since I never used it.

I did test it out just now, and I did see all kinds of equations. Some were calculus. Do Help in Word, and search for "equation editor" and it will tell you how to use it.

yeah - had to use that for my math 202 stuff... not as fancy and Jadis, but it's there and it works fairly smoothly.

Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs
Select "Microsoft Office <whatever version you have>" and click the "Change" button.

Office Installer loads and there should be an option/button for "Add or Remove Features"

Then you'll see the tree of options like when you installed. Select the "Office Tools" node and expand it. You should see "Equation Editor" as one of the items. Click on the little hard drive icon next to it and select "Run From My Computer", then "Continue" down at the bottom of the installer.

It may prompt you for the install discs, so have those handy.

That'll give you access to the summation, integration, derivative, etc. symbols as well as allow you to easily show xxxx/yyyy type equations without having to do crap like:

(y - 2)
------
(x + 1)

For those that haven't got Office (or the several hundred dollars to buy it), the latest version of Open Office is spectacular and MS Office's equal in every way for 99% of users. Unless you're really hung up on Outlook. There's no analog for that.

I use Office 2007 on my desktop and Open Office on my laptop and the 3.0 version of Open Office handles all kinds of funky document formatting without any alterations to what you originally wrote.
