Looks like Steam is having a little deal (http://store.steampowered.com/app/22100/) this weekend. I was a little reluctant before, but for $7.50 I might take the plunge...

I recommend it.

One of the first things you should do is recruit troops from any village. This gives you the war company necessary to take on most raiders and such, as well as pillage without fear.

Spears. A charging horse with couched lance is a weapon of mass destruction on the battlefield. It will usually kill on one hit.

Crossbows suck. Bows are great for dogfighting, but there is a limit to the arrows you have per battle, so they are of limited use.

Betting on yourself in a tourney is a great way to make money. Just don't lose any of the rounds.

Yeah, unfortunately I can't figure out how to have much say in which weapons I get saddled with which rounds. Sometimes I'll do great and bet big and then get stuck in a round where I have a bow and everyone else has swords. I like the bow and all, but once one or two guys decided to charge me I'm finished and out of options. (Unless there is a horse wandering around by then, I can mount up and keep away.)

True enough... and that's a good feature, imo. It makes you balance your character better. Since skills raise through use, ad well as by spending level based skill points... I find it easier to put points into my off weapons on level, and raise my primary through battle.

instead of a bow though, I use the thrown weapons. better shot at killing.

and then just pick up something off the battlefield.

I love throwing a javelin into some poor saps neck as I ride around the battle field.
