I would like to find a loaptop capable of doing two things: running an internet browser and connecting to a wireless network. I want nothing more from this laptop - not music, not video, not even word processing. All I'm looking for is something that we (the family) can bring with us when we travel to our family in NJ and can connect to the internet when we stay in a wifi-capable hotel. Our reason for connecting to the internet are usually just for entertainment, mapping on google maps or checking a local sale flyer or something. Really simple stuff.
Do you think I'd be able to find a clunker of a laptop like this for less than $100?

I was going to suggest a netbook, but those'd run you between $300 and $500. The problem with "an old clunker" is that it isn't going to be fun to lug around.

Yeah, I guess I was thinking a used laptop of some sort, one that's one step above being junked. Only I'm not sure if something that old would be able to be set up to connect to a wifi network. Is there a point where they get so old that they wouldn't accept a wireless ethernet card thingy?

They get that old, but if you can run XP on it, you can probably connect it to a Wireless card. USB if nothing else. Plus, USB is probably cheaper. My brother got one from ebay for less than $10.
