Between evochron renegades, and freelancer, and the upcoming puzzle quest galaxtrix...

my space pirate craving still can't be quenched!

I'd like to try something like eve online, but I can't afford the extra $15 a month right now. ( which is why I had to leave warhammer )

However, I want something sandbox-ish, and something I can spend much time acting like a space pirate.

like I used to in SWG... I spent more time as a pilot than anything. Anyone have any suggestions?

X3: Terran Conflict (http://www.egosoft.com/games/x3tc/info_en.php) is pretty much the epitome of this genre. I'd describe it, but it's pretty much everything you're looking for. It does have its weak spots, but I'm sure you'd be able to find some satisfaction.

You can also buy it on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/2820/).

Wasn't that the name of a cartoon some time back? Maybe it was Space Rangers that I'm thinking of.... :)

Galaxy Rangers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galaxy_Rangers)?

There is actually a series of games called Space Rangers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Rangers_(video_game)) (I've only played SR2, though) that are pretty decent.

I don't think thats it. They had a spaceship that looked like an old WWII sub or battleship with a big jet engine nozzle coming out the back.

This is bugging me now.....:)

x3 looks amazing.

however, i don't know if my laptop will run it.

it fits the minimum system reqs.

although i do love me some singleplayer fun.

It's visually stunning, but that does impose a heavy toll. My GTS 8800 was decent most of the time, but had issues in some very high-complexity scenes. My new GTX280 can handle all of it with 8x AA and 8x anosotropic without breaking a sweat. Laptops might have issues. Though, if you bring the resolution down it might actually be ok. It depends on what you're willing to accept for a good play experience, I suppose.

Oooh! I'm satisfied.

Very much so.

There is just so much of an open feel to it... like I could do anything I want.

Unlike Freelancer, which made me do things as someone else. Although I DO like freelancer...

Terran Conflict is going to occupy me for awhile.

Awesome cluck, glad you like it!

My biggest problem is trying to figure out how to make money. I'd love to talk strategies when you've had a chance to try things out.

I tried some missions in the terran military story, but that wasn't very interesting. So, as I always do in these games, I've been trading. Lots of trading. I wanna build up some stations and build up a fleet of freighters that bring in millions of bucks and then I can buy or even build a fleet of capital ships and then fly through sectors eliminating my competition. Huzzah!
