Everyone knows one of the best parts of Champions is the character creation process. But personally, I find the open framework for character building to be just as interesting for continued play. In most games I'm a one character kind of player, mostly because I like experiencing and achieving as much as I can. But I can absolutely see myself creating 4-6 characters and playing them all on a regular basis in this game.
But I digress. What I was thinking of was having a way of sharing your character's development, not just the creation, with other guild members. There's a number of "look at this character and build idea" posts, but I'm thinking of going one step further. What if we had a post with a character you created, and continued to update it at various times during your advancement? That way people would see not only the physical character at creation, but the powers gained throughout it's career. I know I at least have very little knowledge of the higher tier powers in many of the power sets, and I'd like to see what everyone else's experiences are with them. It could also serve as individual "group report" threads for your character, detailing experiences playing with other LOA champions.
For example, I just made a mecha-demon character last night that turned out so much better than I expected. I started wanting to make a power armor and gadget charater, but I couldn't quite settle on a look at feel during the creation process. Eventually while scrolling through some of the costume pieces I saw the demon horns and thought that a robotic demon might be a cool idea. So I scrapped power armor and gadgets for now, and made a psi/supernatural/might character named Yiazmat and brought him all the way through the initial MC tutorial. Now I absolutely love him.
If there's enough interest, tonight I'll get some screenshots of him in action and start a thread called Champion's Diary: Yiazmat. The first post will have information on what I was going for with the character, as well as some basic screenshots of the character, travel power, etc. As he advances and gets more powers, or visits more areas, I would update it showing off the new powers, along with what I think of them. I think this would not only help others brainstorm ideas for future characters, but it would get people excited about advancing their characters to higher tiers and playing with others in the guild. I know I'd love to stomp some heads with other guild members with my robotic terror, and even with Shadow (who will get the same treatment if this is a hit). If this really catches on, maybe the diary threads could get their own sub-forum, where others could browse through and see a bunch of LOA characters and group experiences at once.
