View Full Version : a weird/scary thing happened

I was uploading some soundfiles to mediafire, and when I was done a strange thing happened. I had my headphones on and was checking the files to make sure they downloaded correctly. Then, I heard this weird, male voice saying 'hellooo, helllloooooo!' It freaked me out completely, so I didn't answer, and turned off the computer at the power button and went to bed. It was 11:30 at night, and I was too tired to deal with it. I haven't heard any more weird voices, and I double checked my files again the next day... and nothing.

Thoughts? Did someone take a stroll through my computer when I opened the FTP port to upload/download? Do I need to worry?

Seriously, without taking a look at what processes were running on your computer, there is no way to tell what was going on.

Are you running any chat programs automatically? Teamspeak or Vent set to auto-start?

lol, no, that movie has no idea what an EVP is....they screwed that all up...

I would say either ghost or chat program that was running.

'EVP'? What?Oh, just looked it up. Who knows. I don't think I have any chat programs running automatically. And it definitely wasn't a poltergeist, ThaMan. Silly person. Unless there's a poltergeist that likes haunting headsets.

Ok. So, if the consensus says it wasn't something to be worried about... I won't worry. It freaked me out, though.

It's possible your headphones were picking up noise from an outside source, a strong transmitter maybe. Years ago, a small CD player sitting on the passenger seat next to me in the car started making noise while I was at a traffic light. It wasn't even turned on. Then I heard a guy tell a joke. Turns out it was coming from a police car that was behind me. I could see the guy talking into his radio and could hear what he was saying from the speakers next to me, pretty weird stuff.

Do whatever you did before and see what happens.

This is possibly crazy, but could it have been one of those web page ads with sound? Like, whenever I buy a ticket off movietickets.com they have that annoying ad telling me I've just won something (I try to close the window as fast as I can before that comes up). But maybe on these "media" sites, which are known for spurious ads, there was an ad there that came up? Maybe? I'm reaching...

I vote this....

Of course the new "smart phones" can do this too. Mine has come through on my XBox headset before.

Yes, I'm not sweating it... since it hasn't happened since. Thankfully! It was pretty much the freakiest thing that's ever happened to me in my life, though.

Thanks for all the good ideas.

After I fecal myself I would welcome our new Poltergiest Overlords.
