I remember there was a discussion a while back about free programs for editing photos.
I have used GIMP but was wondering what else was out there that people like. I looked at the $100 Edition of PhotoShop...but free is better and GIMP did more than it did.

Depends on how much and what sort of editing you need to do. I actually do 95% of my photo editing in Picasa (which is also free) as it covers cropping, lighting, and color changes easier than just about anything else.

TY.. I will take a look at it. Dont need anything uber... just something to play with to enhance photos.

Which camera did you get? If you shoot in raw, which I recomend, you should have gotten software with the camera. If you got a Canon you'll have, I think it's called, DPP: Digital Photo Pro. If you have a Nikon I believe it comes with a version of NX or something. It may do everything you want, but I think it may be only for raw files, which I recomend.

I got my daughter the camera. Will have to check with her as to what software it came with. I went with the Canon as I know the company and have a couple Canon 35's - have yet to check to see it the lens are compatible - but not really wanting to give up my lenses.
Picassa does a good job at the basic enhancements and lighting so it will work for some of the picts that just need minor touchups. But I am still looking for something that I can go nuts with but stay in the cheap range. So far I have yet to find anything to replace GIMP.

Last I read, the only true downside to GIMP for raster editing was the learning curve... Which you're probably past.
