I have been looking up info on Tele's.
One thing I can not find much info on is Tele's made in Mexico.
Are they usually cheaper because they are made in Mexico and
a lower quality product.
Played a Tele over the weekend and liked it. So I may
be adding one to my wish list after I find out some more info and stuff.

I think the wood stock is different - but don't quote me on that.

Not quite as good electronics as the American standard. You can get an American one cheaper if you go with a highway one. My very first real guitar was a highway one strat. Link to the tele below.

I saw the Tele Standard on some Web-site for $400....dont know if it was American or made in Mexico...but I would prob. be better off to save up and get a higher end model or look for a good used higher end model.

The standards are made in Mexico unless it has the word American in front of it. $400-$600 is what the one's made in Mexico go for.

If I have time I am going to go by our local music store and play a few Tele's to see how I like the feel.

Since you'll see em in person, you can definitely tell product origins on Fender guitars by checking back of head stock. Made in XXX. I haven't touched a tele but played a few strats. Its more than just the packaging that separates the USA ones from the others. They'll use different electronics and other odd parts too. Not to say its any better or worse, just different.
You'll want to plug it in is all I'm saying.

Picked up about 12 diff. tele's yesterday.
The owner came by and we talked for 30 mins or so about tele's. His basic recommendation was to play them all through his huge stack.....which was really cool. He came back by later and told me to come to the back room that there was something I needed to see. There were about 20 or so Teles in their shipping cases. They had all been opened so he told me to look throught them and see what I thought. Most of them looked like B grade at best.... assorted things wrong the pickups looked rough etc. .. then he said those were his USA teles and that he sends back over half of what they send. Of the Mexican made maybe one out of 20. When playing I could tell a diff. in the high end USA versus the Mexican Standard. His recommendation was the same as Dr. Buzz to get a Highway One if I am set on a USA made Tele. Plus he said he would keep his eyes open for a good used one for me since he has 10 or so used guitars come by a day to his store. All in all it was a good trip.....the other thing he told me was I should try playing jazz picks since I choke down on my pick... he gave me a few to try and one of them is now my new pick of choice

Nothing like picking em up and good place to do it.
My American strat was a b-grade, it was cosmetic problem but it sure sounded great. Glad I got it.
