Anyone play/ed this game?

I have been looking for a space game where I can explore, colonize, build, gather resources, fight, and be real-time. It looks like this game has this and it's not old being released last year. Going to try and find a demo.

I have it and played it often. Fun game. Only flaw is that it has no single player campaign. You just chose a map, size and race and go at it with upto 10 other opponents or you can play online.

The review I just read on Gamespot talks about single and multi-player action.

Under "The Good"

* Dangerously addictive and enjoyable space strategy
* Real-time gameplay feels original and fresh
* Epic feel with titanic battles
* Excellent single- and multiplayer gameplay.

And later in the review, "Still, Sins of a Solar Empire is an excellent single-player game and one that translates well into the multiplayer realm, especially since it's a lot harder to beat a human opponent than it is a machine."

I have it and play it often. I think its a lot of fun - not much exploration involved really, but fun for a real time game. I prefer Galactic Civ 2 though for a more robust 4x game - its just turn based with no multiplayer.

The space battles are nice and keep you on your toes. The AI can be a bit tricky at times, it likes to zerg.

Gal civ 2's best feature was the ability to create custom ships. The space battles left something to be desired.

I have it and played it some. It's really well done, so it's unfortunate I still suck at these (and most) games. I think GalCiv2 and SoaSE and Sword of the Stars all offer something different, so to me they fall into different need satisfying categories. One thing I really like about Sins is that I don't have to deal with the stupid ship building crap that GalCiv2 puts you through.... how tedious! I can focus more easily on building a fleet and going a-conquering. But, because of the speed with which a Sins game progresses, you don't get the depth and nuance that GalCiv2 allows for. Diplomacy, while there, is simplified as well.

Hmm... I haven't tried Sins since I upgraded the hardware in my machine... maybe I should get back to it?

Oh, and the single-player game in Sins is just a multiplayer game against AI. As was said, no campaign to speak of.
