I have a potential client who has a book he sells from his web site. At the moment he takes paypal, then ships the physical book by mail. He wants to be able to take the paypal payment (or some other credit card service) and have the person be able to download the PDF.
I'm not sure if the best way is to just send an email after he gets the order, or if there's a way to automate that process, or if there's a way to display a page with the pdf there as a link. Of course the trick is to only allow the person that paid for it to download it so they couldn't send the link out to friends and have them download it.
Anyone want to take this on?

Thanks, but like I said, I want to hire someone. I have WAY too much going on right now that I'd honestly rather get him as a client and subcontract out the work. The is back-end web work that I have no interest in doing or learning. It's not what I'm in business for. However, in selling him this service, I'm going to try to get other business from him like maybe a new site, advertising and the like, stuff I do have an interest in.
By the way, I don't believe a service like Lulu will work because he simply wants to take a payment, like he does now, and have them receive a .pdf. He already has the web site and the book is already published.
So if anyone knows how to do this and wants to make money, let me know.

There are high capital and low recurring cost ways to solve this and also low capital upfront and higher recurring cost ways to do this. Depending on his situation you could do it a bunch of ways.
I don't take alot of side jigs but I love e-book marketing and would consider taking this on but I would want to know some of the following to see if its a good fit for me.
How much time does he spend every month on mailing out books?
Do you know or can you guess how much his time worth?
Does he preceive that he could sell more books if they were made downloadable and does he have an idea of estimate growth?
What is the cost per book? About how many books does he currently sell per month?
have you read his book and does it suck? Could I see the existing website?
How does he currently market his book?
Does he have any free teaser products or any additional products he sells?
Do you have a pre-existing personal or professional relationship with him? Is he easy to work with?
If its the perfect storm I would consider taking this on but if not I could point you in the right direction.
