I got one today but it's not letting me copy my ripped CD MP3s to it. I have been able to copy them to my ipod in the past (haven't tried recently). Are they doing something where you can ONLY copy over things you've purchased via the itunes store? That would really suck because I have about 300 CDs that I own and have ripped for this purpose.

Anyway, when I try to drag it to the phone I'm just getting the circle with line through it.

I don't think that's the case that you have to use purchased items. I haven't done that with an iPhone, but I'm sure that just like an iPod, you still have to use their software to sync it. The files on my iPod are in playable form, but the file names and directories are obfuscated.

Then again, AT&T may impose other restrictions on the iPhone the same way Verizon disables much of the functionality of its phones to force you to buy their ringtones.

You can drag any mp3 you have into the itunes software and it will sync it. I have about 1000 of my own song that I did that with.

Always worked for me as well. Plenty of ordinary MP3s on my iPhone.

Ditto - drag and drop with iTunes and all is well.

Finally got it. I had to go to the iphone menu and check the box to "manually manage music and videos". Now it works.
