Toyota's sticky gas pedals caused sudden and unintended acceleration in several of the automaker's top-selling Toyota and Lexus-brand cars, which led to a massive recall of more than 9 million vehicles worldwide, beginning in November. While ongoing inquiries attempt to locate the source of the problem and figure out a fix, investigators might find it useful to examine a far-out culprit: cosmic ray radiation from deep in the cosmos, which has been known to plague vulnerable data and memory chips in electronics.

I'd be much more inclined to believe that drivers were hitting the wrong pedal. Incidentally, I have Prius right now as a rental and my god, the gas and brake pedal are practically on top of each other.

I heard on the radio the other day that they have tested a bunch of the accidents that were attributed to the so-called defects. The black boxes in the cars showed that the cars were increasing in speed, and the brake was not engaged at all.
In other words, it was driver error, not a defect after all.
Oh, and roland, I believe that schidt as much as I believe my farts cause the global warming.

I heard a similar report saying the incidents were attributed to driver error... which seems reasonable to me.

Do you think you would freak out or would you just put the car in neutral?
I guess its up to Darwin to decide.

I've had a gas pedal stick on an old civic. There was maybe 1/4th of a second of freaking out before i just popped it into neutral.
With half a brain, it isn't that hard of a solution to come up with.

"Trojans sticky condoms caused sudden and unintended deceleration in several of the condom wearers top-selling flavored and scented-brand condoms, which led to a massive recall of more than 9 million units worldwide, beginning in November. While ongoing inquiries attempt to locate the source of the problem and figure out a fix, investigators might find it useful to examine a far-out culprit: hot saliva and hot damn! from deep throating, which has been known to plague everyone at one time or another."
THAT I find more plausible.

ROFL!
I didn't say I agreed with it - just that it was interesting and scary.
Need a scapegoat - just blame the "COSMOS"
