Default Kind of confused...

So I have not kept up to date with the Cataclysm stuff recently.

I found a "beta Talent Calculator" for Cataclysm and found this...

http://cata.wowhead.com/talent#o

So is this just incomplete? Or are characters only going to get 41 talent points now?

They are cutting the trees down to 41 points. This is correct.

And cutting a lot of the "filler" talents and making them passive level granted abilities.

You know, the talents people get just to get the 30 points to get the next talent.

But it sounds like it kind of was broken. Lots of talent points have to be spent on talents that people don't necessarily want. Instead, they're going to give you lots of the passive talents in chunks and you can instead focus on the more important talents.

I'm currently in the Cata Beta. Yes, the talent trees are getting ripped down to 31 deep, yes at 85, we will only have 41 talents.

The whole idea of the 31 talent trees is to get rid of a lot of the "filler" talents like 5/5 into a talent to gain 5% crit and things like that. Hence the idea of the mastery system, which has yet to be implemented. In case you haven't read up on mastery, it will be 3 innate buffs that will be applied to your character at L80 or higher that are chosen by which tree you specialize in.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the 31 talent tree since I'm now forced to take talents that I would have never taken in the 51 talent tree, in order to hit the next tier and feel that all it's doing is making the game easier for those that are not good at thinking about how they want their toon to differ from others, now they all will be cookie cutter. It now means, the only way you will be able to differentiat yourself from the other 10000 people on your server, by skill and gear.

I could say alot since I've been following the beta as much as I can without being in it. But since I don't have any hands on with the beta myself I'll keep it simple.

Wrath IS broke.

No surprise here. Blizzard has been homogenizing the game since it's inception, making classes more and more similar. Now they're doing the same with talents. And I'm not sure gear is much different either. Assuming your progression in the game is roughly the same as person X, you're going to be wearing the same items as they are in almost every slot. There is really very little gear diversity.

Well, not 100% broke. Wrath was a good expansion. But there are few issues with it that have gotten way out of hand. Sadly 95% of it for me is the average WoW player. The calibur of people you meet in WoW seems to have gotten pretty low with this expansion. Its a culture bred by some of Wrath's flaws. The big one (and I think Coffee will agree with me on this) is that Wrath rewards mediocrity. BC and Vannilla punished it.

Well in all fairness. Its mostly Lothar and the Ruin battlegroup. I've tested the waters on a few servers and while there are always trolls and assholes in these kinds of games, Lothar really is a horrible server. I'm not surprised so many guilds have done server transfers and left Lothar.

I just got my invite last night, so I'm dying to check out all the changes.

First stop (I hope) is Goblintown for a new character.

Speaking of things being unfinished, I think they should leave whatever this is as is. Arcanite Ripper wielding undead on a raptor on a shark with freaking laser beams.

If that is not reason enough to play this game I don't know what is...
