Movie Inception

Went and saw this Friday morning with my wife, and was pleasantly surprised. No Oscar winner, etc, but a nice pleasant time. Much better than Shutter Island, maybe because it was a bit more of an ensemble movie than the afore metioned.

Had a bit of a problem with how it started once you get into it, but that can be overcome. What really makes this movie is the special effects especially with the world creating parts. And even though in dreams, there were some rules, and the movie kept true to those rules throughout which was nice.

All in all was nice enjoyable movie, and the ending could have gone either way

which is what I think the direct wanted.

Saw it last night

I liked it, it was original but I thought the fight scenes were a bit long and never felt like any of the "good guys" had any risk

I enjoyed Inception as well. Lots of interesting ideas. I agree, it was odd or funny that these people could sit in cars getting riddled with holes and come out unscathed.

Short quick question, is there an ending?

I've tried to only read reputable reviews that never spoil movies, but I've been seeing a trend that suggests this is one of those films that thinks it is deep or artsy to not have an ending or explanation, and leave it all up to the viewer. Call me shallow, but I am tired of that and don't find it all that endearing. I kinda like to walk out knowing what the heck I just watched.

Not saying doing that would automatically make the movie suck, just want to know what I am in for.

It depends. Some movies that are left open ended actually do the storyline rather well. Reign of Fire is probably the worst example of an open ended movie. You leave there wondering "What was THAT..."

I like Ebert's review of this movie. I might actually go see it and jot down some thoughts.

They left it open ended but I interpretred it in a very closed way

There are different types of "open ended" endings. Some end like say, Halloween when they look back and see Michael Meyers' body is gone. Those are lame. Instead, Inception ends with a question to which there is no answer, and I'm cool with that. The question is important, the answer is not. You can call that artsy if you want, I just liked it.

The biggest problem I see from others is their intense attempt to solve Inception like it's some kind of puzzle. I think that's unnecessary. Watch it. Enjoy it. Try not to think too hard. I think Nolan lays everything out there for the viewer and trying to invent content to make it fit your own view of what it should be is just a waste of time and energy and misses the point.

It was what I suspected, one of those movies with no explanation and ending. The difference is, this was a good use of that trope, and I loved the movie.

I do have to disagree, I didn't really see it all layed out for me. I actually sort of did see it as meant to leave enough room that each person could make it fit their view of what happened(within a few results)

I honestly don't know what happened at the end, and don't mind an explanation if I missed the obvious. The more I think about it, the less I am sure what happened:

1) The entire movie was his dream scape, and just a way to deal with his loss, never was a powerful Japanese corporate exec who was able to clear his name. Seems plausible, if all he wanted was to be with his kids, why not just grab his kids and live in the Cayman Islands or something.

2)He went into deep never never land at the end, to get the Japanese guy back so he could make good on his promise to get him back with his kids?

3)Cobb never did wake up, he decided that reality was less important than living in a world that made him happy. Hence he walked away from his totem, and didn't want to know if the world he was in was real or at least not think about it too much.

Finally saw Inception last night and loved it.

I hear a lot of people have had trouble following it. Wasn't really the case for me.
The only question I was left with was the obvious one from the ending. Everything else works too nicely for me to question what level it happened on.

Regardless of what you read into the twist(s), it was an excellently written, directed and acted movie with great F/X.
